*JUST SERVICED & FILM TESTED*

The Nikon L35AD is a classic 35mm film camera with a fast f/2.8 lens, autofocus and built-in date imprint. Affectionately nicknamed the “Pikaichi” in Japan (meaning “top notch”), this is the date-back version of Nikon’s first autofocus compact - a much-loved vintage camera that pairs a beautifully sharp Nikon 35mm lens with true point-and-shoot simplicity. If you want a durable, characterful way into film cameras, this one is hard to beat.

✔ Fast Nikon 35mm f/2.8 lens – The L35AD's 35mm lens gives you a natural, versatile perspective that works particularly well for everyday snapshots, travel, street photography and portraits. Its bright f/2.8 maximum aperture also makes it a standout feature of this classic Nikon film camera.

✔ Autofocus made easy – locks focus from 0.8m to infinity with a focus confirmation signal, so you can frame, press and shoot with confidence.

✔ Fully automatic exposure – shutter speeds from 1/8 to 1/430 sec and support for ISO 50–1000 film, plus a backlight compensation lever for tricky, high-contrast scenes.

✔ Built-in date imprint – The L35AD (AD = Auto Date) lets you imprint your photos with the date for that authentic, nostalgic 35mm look.

✔ Built-in pop-up flash – The L35AD automatically pops the flash up when light is low, keeping portraits and indoor moments well lit.

✔ Solid, durable build – The L35AD features an all-metal body under a tough plastic shell which gives it real heft, and it runs on two everyday AA batteries that are easy to find anywhere.

The Nikon L35AD is an excellent introduction to 35mm film photography, giving beginners the convenience of a point-and-shoot camera without sacrificing the appeal of a quality fixed lens. Its 35mm f/2.8 lens is well suited to everyday photography, while automatic focus, exposure and film handling keep the shooting process simple. For anyone wanting a dependable vintage camera with plenty of character, the L35AD offers an enjoyable way to experience classic 35mm film photography.

Battery Requirement – This reusable film camera operates with 2x AA batteries (sold separately).

Grade: We grade every camera carefully so you can shop with confidence, knowing exactly what you’ll receive. Each one is thoroughly tested to ensure it works as intended, and our grading scale helps you understand the overall condition and any minor imperfections that distinguish it from a like-new example.

  • Grade 10 – Near Perfect: Near-perfect, minimal to no wear, flawless functions, crystal-clear lens.
  • Grade 9 – Excellent: Lightly used, faint scuffs, fully functional, clean lens.
  • Grade 8 – Great: Normal signs of use, minor surface marks, fully functional.
  • Grade 7 – Good: Well-loved with visible wear or small quirks, but everything works as it should.
  • Grade 6 – Fair: Heavier wear and noticeable imperfections. It may also have minor functional quirks or imperfections, but it is fully functional and full of character.

If you’d like more clarity regarding our classifications, please view our grading scale here, or please don't hesitate to reach out to our team — we’re always happy to help!

Usability

Usability: The Nikon L35AD is a fully automatic point-and-shoot - load your film, frame your shot, and let the camera handle focus and exposure. The pop-up flash raises and fires automatically in low light, and the backlight compensation lever gives you a simple way to brighten subjects against bright backgrounds. The built-in date back imprints your photos so every roll doubles as a dated photo diary.

Beginner Friendly?: Yes! With autofocus, auto-exposure and automatic film advance, there are no manual settings to learn - just load two AA batteries and a roll of 35mm film and start shooting.
