Description

Perfect for:

  • Photographers ready to step up to a pro-level 35mm SLR that still works with affordable Canon EF lenses
  • Sports, street and low-light shooting where fast, accurate autofocus makes the difference
  • Anyone curious to try Eye-Control Focus - one of the most innovative features in film camera history

*JUST SERVICED & FILM TESTED*

The Canon EOS 3 is a professional 35mm SLR film camera from Canon's late-'90s heyday, sold body only so you can pair it with the EF lenses you already own. It's one of the most capable SLR film cameras you can pick up today: a 45-point autofocus system that can be controlled by where you're looking in the viewfinder, 21-zone metering and a shutter that tops out at 1/8000 sec. If you want a vintage camera that shoots almost like a modern DSLR but on 35mm film, the EOS 3 is the one.

✔ 45-point autofocus – Autofocus points spread across the frame let the camera lock onto your subject almost anywhere you compose, and keep up when the subject moves.

✔ Eye-controlled focus – The EOS 3's innovative Eye Control Focus monitors where you're looking in the viewfinder to select and focus on one of the 45 autofocus points that you're looking at. Simply calibrate it using the simple calibration mode and it feels like a small bit of magic occurs when it focuses on where you're looking (glasses wearers may find it less reliable).

✔ 21-zone metering with four modes – Choose evaluative, partial, spot or centre-weighted averaging metering, with Program, shutter-priority, aperture-priority and manual exposure to suit whatever the light is doing.

✔ Shutter from 30 sec to 1/8000 sec – With a 1/200 sec flash sync speed, you can freeze fast action or stretch out a long exposure with the same 35mm camera.

✔ Quick, fluid shooting – Up to 4 frames per second, or up to 7 with the optional PB-E2 Power Drive Booster, for sport, street and anything in motion.

✔ Canon EF lens and flash compatible – Works with the wide Canon EF lens range, plus a hot shoe for TTL, A-TTL and E-TTL flash.

Sold body only, the Canon EOS 3 is a rewarding way into serious 35mm SLR film photography. Add an EF prime and a fresh roll of 35mm film, and you've got a pro-grade 35mm camera ready to go.

Looking for another professional Canon SLR? Take a look at the Canon EOS-1, an earlier pro 35mm SLR film camera in this Canon EF-mount line.

Battery Requirement – This reusable film camera operates with 1x 2CR5 6V lithium battery (sold separately).

For 'Grade 6 - Fair' Cameras: Minor quirks or functional notes may apply. Please check the ‘Condition & Notes’ section below for full details.

To learn more about our camera grades, please view our Grading Scale.

Grade

Grade: We grade every camera carefully so you can shop with confidence, knowing exactly what you’ll receive. Each one is thoroughly tested to ensure it works as intended, and our grading scale helps you understand the overall condition and any minor imperfections that distinguish it from a like-new example.

  • Grade 10 – Near Perfect: Near-perfect, minimal to no wear, flawless functions, crystal-clear lens.
  • Grade 9 – Excellent: Lightly used, faint scuffs, fully functional, clean lens.
  • Grade 8 – Great: Normal signs of use, minor surface marks, fully functional.
  • Grade 7 – Good: Well-loved with visible wear or small quirks, but everything works as it should.
  • Grade 6 – Fair: Heavier wear and noticeable imperfections. It may also have minor functional quirks or imperfections, but it is fully functional and full of character.

If you’d like more clarity regarding our classifications, please view our grading scale, or please don't hesitate to reach out to our team — we’re always happy to help!

Usability

Usability: The Canon EOS 3 was built for professional photographers, so it puts a full set of exposure modes, a rear control dial and a wealth of custom functions at your fingertips. Once you've set it up your way, autofocus and metering are quick and dependable. Eye-Control Focus needs a short calibration and can be less reliable for glasses wearers, but the AF points can always be manually selected by hand.

Beginner Friendly: This is a pro-tier body, so it suits photographers with some 35mm SLR experience better. That said, Program AE lets a newer shooter point, focus and shoot with the camera handling exposure, so it's approachable once you're comfortable loading and advancing film.
