The Canon AF35M is a 1979 vintage camera and Canon's first autofocus 35mm camera, a fully automatic point-and-shoot made for everyday 35mm film photography. Also known as the Canon Sure Shot in North America and the Autoboy in Japan, it brings fast infrared autofocus, automatic exposure and motorised film winding together in one friendly 35mm point-and-shoot camera that's ready to shoot straight out of your bag.

✔ Canon's first autofocus compact – Launched in November 1979, the AF35M was Canon's first compact camera with autofocus and went on to win Japan's 1980 Good Design Award. It's a genuine piece of film camera history that still shoots beautifully today.

✔ Fast 38mm f/2.8 lens – A sharp, fast fixed prime with a natural field of view that suits portraits, street scenes and travel snaps, and keeps you shooting as the light fades.

✔ Built-in flash & self-timer – A built-in flash lifts low-light and indoor shots, and the self-timer is perfect for group photos and travel portraits.

✔ Helpful viewfinder – A bright viewfinder shows framelines, parallax correction marks, zone-focus indicators and battery and camera-shake warning lights.

Combining classic design with convenient automatic features, the Canon AF35M is an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy the simplicity of 35mm film photography. Its sharp 38mm lens, reliable autofocus, helpful viewfinder and motorised film advance make capturing everyday moments easy and enjoyable. Perfect for beginners and casual photographers, this vintage Canon 35mm camera offers a straightforward way to experience the timeless character of film.

Battery Requirement – This reusable film camera operates with 2x AA 1.5V batteries (sold separately).

Grade: We grade every camera carefully so you can shop with confidence, knowing exactly what you’ll receive. Each one is thoroughly tested to ensure it works as intended, and our grading scale helps you understand the overall condition and any minor imperfections that distinguish it from a like-new example.

  • Grade 10 – Near Perfect: Near-perfect, minimal to no wear, flawless functions, crystal-clear lens.
  • Grade 9 – Excellent: Lightly used, faint scuffs, fully functional, clean lens.
  • Grade 8 – Great: Normal signs of use, minor surface marks, fully functional.
  • Grade 7 – Good: Well-loved with visible wear or small quirks, but everything works as it should.
  • Grade 6 – Fair: Heavier wear and noticeable imperfections. It may also have minor functional quirks or imperfections, but it is fully functional and full of character.

Usability

Usability: A true point-and-shoot, the AF35M handles focus, exposure and film winding for you. Its fast 38mm f/2.8 lens suits portraits, street photography and travel snaps, and the built-in flash helps in low light. Film is threaded onto the take-up spool by hand, so load it carefully and fire a few frames until the counter reads 1.
